
Jennifer Cohen, Prairie Elementary School
Jennifer Cohen graduated from Comeaux High School and received her B.A. in Elementary Education (1st – 6th) from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2007. She started teaching 4th grade in Lafayette Parish School System in 2007. She continued her studies at ULL and received an add-on certification for English as a Second Language in 2008. With the help of her mentors, she began the process for National Board certification in the 2011-2012 school year. She officially became National Board certified in Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood in November 2012. After teaching in Lafayette Parish for 6 years, she moved to Texas and became certified for Elementary Generalist with an ESL supplemental certification. She taught in Coppell Independent School District and completed 30 hours of additional training for Gifted/Talented instruction. Upon moving back to Louisiana, she taught 6th ELA/Social Studies and 7th grade ELA in Acadia Parish. In 2015, she started coursework at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA and in 2016, completed the requirements for the School Librarian add-on certification. In 2016, she began her current position as the librarian/technology coach for Prairie Elementary in Lafayette Parish. She was nominated Teacher of the Year for Prairie Elementary in 2018. In the 2020-2021 school year, she began the process to renew her National Board certification and successfully renewed her certification in December 2021. She currently serves on the Louisiana Young Readers Choice Committee for 3rd -5th grade and is an active member of the Louisiana Library Association and Lafayette Parish Association of School Librarians.
